Why are you running for City Council in Columbia City?

I have lived in Columbia City more than 25 years and have always had an interest in running for City Council. I have always been busy with work, family and activities at the high school and felt I couldn’t juggle any more. Now that my kids are grown and out on their own, I felt I could take on a new challenge. I want to contribute to Columbia City in an active, positive way.

What is the single most important issue currently facing Columbia City?

Rising gas prices and property tax increases have caused all of us to feel the pinch lately. I realize some things are beyond our control, but as a Council member, I will strive to be a fiscal conservative voice and encourage spending the taxpayers’ dollars wisely. Though I know that rate increases are sometimes inevitable, I will do whatever I can to avoid the increases that have become all to prevalent lately.

I feel it is very important for a council member to be available to constituents to express their ideas and concerns. I will make it a priority to be easily accessible to all of my constituents.

Do you have a favorite restaurant or hang-out in C.C.?

Well, my “favorite” hang out in Columbia City would have to be the high school. I am there practically every night of the week when there are any sports events going on.

I also love it that we have a new movie theatre in Columbia City. I go as often as I can.

What do you look forward to during Old Settler’s Day week?

I just love the atmosphere of a fair. I like to just go walk around and watch people, especially the kids because they are so excited.

Why should folks vote for you to be their City Councilwoman?

Columbia City has been a wonderful place for us to raise our family and I would like to contribute to its growth. I want Columbia City to continue to be a place that we are proud to call home. I would like to find ways to make Columbia City appealing to young people who would like to come here, or return here, to raise their children.
